Villa Rossa – blending Italian elegance with the beauty of the Rhodope Mountains

History Reborn Through Design

Set among the mystical slopes of the Rhodope Mountains, Villa Rossa transforms a former socialist residence into a boutique SPA hotel where Italian elegance meets the strength of the mountain and its healing springs. History, nature, and design intertwine in harmony, creating a space that inspires and restores. The transformation of Villa Rossa reflects deep respect for heritage and the strength of contemporary design – the massive forms of the old complex are softened with natural materials, while panoramic openings invite light and nature into the interior. Preserved concrete structures have been reimagined as art galleries, a wine cellar, and intimate spaces for relaxation – a dialogue between history and a new sense of elegance. The interior blends minimalism and warmth, where modern lines and natural textures evoke comfort and subtle aristocracy. Spaces flow seamlessly into the outdoors, where architecture and nature unite in a single visual and emotional harmony.

The Gardens – Concept and Atmosphere

The outdoor spaces of Villa Rossa are designed as a natural extension of the surrounding landscape. The landscape concept weaves together the principles of the Italian garden and the authenticity of the Rhodope Mountains. Terraced levels, supported by stone walls, form a dynamic vertical composition and multiple perspectives. The ground-level garden is a living tapestry of evergreens, lavender, and blooming accents, crowned by a monumental corten steel sculpture bearing the hotel’s name – a visual symbol of the place. At the main entrance, a “garden salon” unfolds – a formal composition inspired by Renaissance gardens. Geometric lines, cypresses, and green borders create a sense of symmetry and order, while terracotta vases and sculptures add festivity and character. The space is envisioned as a stage for events and cultural gatherings, where architecture and nature enter into a harmonious dialogue.

Balance Between Water, Greenery, and Space

The inner courtyard spaces are devoted to relaxation and balance. Around the mineral pools, lounge areas, tents, and sunbeds are nestled among greenery and aromatic plants. Each zone is thoughtfully arranged to provide comfort and privacy, while the sound of flowing water and the scent of herbs create a fully immersive natural experience. Corten steel elements and natural flooring emphasize the Mediterranean atmosphere and the connection to the site’s natural resources – mineral water and fresh mountain air. These spaces can be enjoyed for relaxation, social gatherings, or summer events, all while remaining in harmony with the philosophy of the place – a balance between architecture, water, and greenery.

Serenity in Every Detail

The composition of Villa Rossa follows the less is more philosophy – minimalism with clearly defined accents that allow the space to “breathe” and speak through detail. The project is more than a hotel – it is an experience, a symbiosis of architecture, nature, and a sense of proportion. A place where the past is transformed into inspiration, and design becomes an art of balance and coherence. The selection of plant life is carefully curated to enhance a sense of calmness and completeness. Evergreens provide a continuous backdrop, aromatic herbs and flowering plants introduce color accents and sensory depth, while native Rhodope species connect the space to the surrounding landscape. Each green element plays a role – as a frame, a visual highlight, or a backdrop for movement and views – contributing to the overall guest experience, where architecture, nature, and detail are thoughtfully integrated.
